FAQ

Welcome to the Ideal Flooring Shop FAQ page. Whether you are setting up a home gym, creating a safe play area for children, or looking to protect your garage floor, we understand that choosing the right flooring can raise many questions. Below, we have compiled answers to the most common inquiries to help you make an informed decision.

1. What types of flooring mats do you offer?

We carry a comprehensive selection of flooring mats designed to suit a wide variety of needs and environments. Our product range includes interlocking tiles, puzzle-style mats, straight-edge mats, folding padded mats, and roll-out mats. In terms of materials, we offer options in foam, rubber, PVC plastic, vinyl, and blended compositions that combine the best features of multiple materials. Whether you need cushioning, firmness, traction, water resistance, or a combination of features, we have products that will meet your requirements.

2. Where can I use these flooring mats?

Our flooring mats are suitable for both home and commercial installations. For residential use, they work well in home gyms, home offices, basements, children’s playrooms, and garages. For commercial applications, our products are ideal for fitness centers, martial arts studios, retail locations, schools, veterinary clinics, warehouses, industrial settings, and many other environments. Outdoor flooring mats are also available and are built to withstand various weather conditions, temperature variations, and UV rays.

3. How do I choose the right mat for my needs?

The right choice depends on your specific use case. If you are setting up a workout space, consider whether you need extra cushioning for activities like yoga or a firmer surface for heavy weightlifting. Rubber flooring is extremely durable and provides excellent protection for high-impact areas, while foam offers superior cushioning and is often preferred for play areas and general exercise. For garage use, rubber mats are a great option as long as they are placed in areas where vehicles are not driven or parked. Think about factors such as thickness, size, installation process, traction, and the level of cushioning you require.

4. Do you provide installation services?

We do not provide on-site installation services. However, many of our flooring products are designed to be easy do-it-yourself projects. Interlocking tiles and puzzle-style mats, in particular, are simple for individuals to install even without much prior experience. We recommend reading the installation instructions thoroughly before you begin. If you would prefer professional installation, we suggest reaching out to a local contractor.

5. How do I determine how much material I need?

We offer free online tools to help you calculate the correct amount of flooring material for your space. The quickest way to get a rough estimate is to use the quick calculator located near the top of each product page. For a more complete and accurate estimate, you can use the pro floor plan designer tool, which allows you to enter the exact dimensions of your room.

6. Do I need an underlayment or protective layer between the mats and my existing floor?

This depends on the type of product you are purchasing and the flooring you will be laying it over. Typically, you do not need anything to protect a concrete subfloor. However, if you are laying hard tiles over hardwood flooring, you may want to add a protective layer to prevent damage.

7. Are the mats waterproof and easy to clean?

Many of our products are designed with water resistance in mind. Rubber flooring is highly water-resistant and durable. Foam mats made from EVA are waterproof and stain-resistant, making spills easy to manage. Vinyl-covered mats also provide durability and a sure footing. Most of our flooring options are easy to clean and maintain with simple routine care.

8. Can I use these mats for my garage?

Yes, rubber mats are an excellent choice for garage use, provided they are placed in areas where vehicles are not driven or parked. Repeated vehicle weight can shorten the lifespan of rubber mats, and fluid leaks can also cause damage. A popular setup is to use half of the garage as a gym or workspace with rubber flooring, while leaving the other half for parking. We also carry anti-fatigue mats that are ideal for workshop areas where you may be standing for long periods.

9. Are these mats safe for children and pets?

Absolutely. Many of our foam mats are specifically designed for children’s play areas. They provide cushioning and are forgiving in the event of a fall. These mats can be laid directly over existing hardwood or tile floors, instantly making the space more inviting and safer for kids. For pet areas, we offer pet-safe floor mats that support the weight of larger animals and resist damage from claws and other wear.

10. What is the difference between rubber and foam flooring?

The primary difference between rubber and foam gym flooring involves the level of cushioning they provide and their durability. Rubber is far more durable while still providing some cushioning, making it ideal for heavy equipment and high-traffic areas. Foam offers extra cushioning with slightly less durability, which makes it a great choice for play areas, gymnastics, and general exercise where impact absorption is a priority.

11. How durable are these flooring products?

Our flooring mats are built to last. Commercial-grade rubber options are highly durable and can withstand harsh conditions, heavy foot traffic, and the weight of equipment. Foam mats are more durable than many people expect and provide excellent long-term performance in home and light commercial settings. Many of our products are made from recycled materials and feature “Made in the USA” construction.

12. Can I customize the size or layout of my flooring?

Yes, many of our products are designed to be highly customizable. Interlocking tiles and puzzle mats allow you to create any size layout you need. Roll-out mats can cover large, narrow spaces quickly. For larger areas, you can connect multiple tiles or rolls to achieve the exact coverage you require.
